“We set out with a simple and clear vision to develop a dynamic world-class education program designed to increase the value, integrity and employability of the PGA of Canada professional,” said the PGA of Canada’s Chief Innovation Officer Matt Allen. “And after years of research, hard work and determination, we have accomplished that defined goal of supporting the PGA of Canada professional.”

Designed for both new and current members, the Training Academy is based around training all new members with the core principles of the modern golf professional along with the flexibility to take elective credits specific to their interests and career path. Current members can take specific courses to become specialized or re-specialized in the various pathway, all designed to provide better employment opportunities for the Class "A" member.

“The PGA Training Academy presented by Titleist and FootJoy will be greatly beneficial to both new and current members thanks to the simplification of our education pathways that better reflect the golf industry and the needs of the PGA of Canada member,” Allen said.

Launching in multiple phases, there are 15 PGA Training Academy presented by Titleist and FootJoy courses currently available with the second wave coming online this April. By 2020 more than 40 courses will be available as part of the third phase.

With a variety of learning deliveries, new and Class “A” members can take online courses either virtually with live instructors, asynchronously on their own time or in person. Courses are worth anywhere between .5 and 6 credits and new PGA of Canada members can obtain their Class “A” status after 30 credits earned (15 credits will be electives, while the remaining 15 will be mandatory).

Housed on Desire2Learn—the platform used by the likes of as Wal-Mart, American Nursing Association, Canada's National Ballet School, Canadian Marketing Association, University of Arizona, Texas A&M, University of Ottawa and Queen's University—PGA Training Academy content has been written by Dr. Emma Stodel of Learning4Excellence with a vast array of subject matter experts from PGA of Canada members and beyond.

“One of the major tenets of the PGA Training Academy presented by Titleist and FootJoy is to support existing Class “A” members who are seeking additional education in areas of their current roles or if they are looking to elevate or shift their career to another role,” Allen said. “With PGA Training Academy presented by Titleist & FootJoy we have a deeper level of content available for our members to engage in to support them finding and succeeding in their desired roles.”

Additionally, new members who come from PGA-recognized programs at Georgian and Humber College, as well as McMaster University, will give prior learning credits towards their Class “A” status.

Two live webinars led by Allen will be available to all current PGA of Canada members who have questions on March 5 and March 13

“Whenever a new initiative of this magnitude is launched there will be many questions from members and prospective members,” Allen admits. “So, to help remedy the situation we’ve put together some content that will go a long way in answering those questions.”
